Epoxy paint, on the other hand, is merely paint that has a bit of epoxy in the mixture. It is the same as the paint used on roads and on house exteriors. The epoxy is added to make the paint adhere better and last longer. It does not really protect the floor, but it makes the concrete floor look more appealing. It does not address surface damage, but merely address the issue of aesthetics.
Epoxy Paint on Garage Floors Vs Epoxy Garage Flooring
- An epoxy coating makes a garage floor more durable, more resistant to damage, chemical spills, scratches, and more. Epoxy paint will stain, peel off, and scratch easily.
- Epoxy coatings are applied with a thickness of 8 to 12 mils per layer. Epoxy paint is only applied with a 1 to 2 mils thickness.
- Epoxy coating requires a professional install, whereas, epoxy paint often comes in a DIY kit.
- Epoxy paint does not need to be sealed. If it does, a thickness of 1 to 2 mils of urethane is enough. As for epoxy coatings, the protective coat is about 9 to 11 mils thick.
Opting for an epoxy paint over an epoxy flooring will not only be a waste of time, but it also makes the garage floor less valuable and less safe. If you want something that is worth the investment you are willing to make, then go for an epoxy flooring. It helps restore a concrete garage floor, making it last longer, tougher against damaging elements, and more appealing.
